I'll be the first to admit that the changing of the calendar fills me with whimsical glee. "This year, 20XX, will finally be my year," I whisper to myself in the dwindling December evenings. I envision a stronger, healthier, more financially fit woman who is finally shedding the cocoon of her former self and stepping into the world a shimmering Greek muse.

To be fair, it's hard not to get caught up in the anticipation. The week between Christmas and the new year is filled with positive mantras like "New Year, new you!" and sharing resolutions over the watercooler at work. We collectively complain about how awful the prior 365 days have been--even if they were only marginally mediocre--and look forward to our new, perfect lives.

The problem with the Hype is that it strips the year of all the joy and accomplishments we have witnessed. Yes, there have been bad days and failures, but that doesn't make us any less for having experienced them. Some years are, in fact, way worse that others. Every year is still filled with pockets of joy and growth. So, before we switch to a new solar cycle, I encourage everyone to take some time and write down whatever made you feel happy and accomplished in 2017. Here's a list of my proudest moments in 2017:

  • Graduated from the university of my choice with a second bachelor's degree.

  • Was a guest at 3 different conventions, including Snake River Comic Con.

  • Taught more panels and classes than ever before on a variety of art and motivational topics.

  • Cut my teeth in graphic design, working for a local Escape Room and a Professional Wrestler.

  • Was selected for a zine, and will soon have my work published.

  • Changed the studio name and found an art direction that really works for me.

  • Made art, found time with loved ones, and went to new events!

There's so much more that happened this year that I haven't listed--both good and sad memories. A lot has changed this year, and I have grown so much from it all.

Before I sign off for the year, I'd like to emphasize how important you have been in my life. That's right. You. All of this wouldn't be possible without you! Reading my blog posts, liking my work, supporting me financially, or just stopping by the booth at a convention means more to me than I can ever properly put into words. I hope I've lived up to you expectations and continue to do so in 2018! Thank you from the bottom of my dorky little heart. So long until next year!
